Sunday School
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deuteronomy 11: 18-19)
Children are an important part of our ministry at Abiding Savior and we offer many opportunities for them to learn about their Savior, Jesus.
Regular attendance at Sunday School, along with home devotions and family Bible study, will help ensure that the youth of our congregation grow strong in their faith and their love for the Lord. Sunday School for children from pre-school through 5th grade meets weekly from the Sunday Labor Day to Memorial Day at 8:15 am, before the weekly Sunday morning worship service.
Sunday School instruction includes:
• Old Testament Bible lessons
• New Testament Bible lessons
• Devotions and prayers
• Crafts and activities
• Hymns and songs
The Sunday School children also take part Christmas Eve service as well as singing God’s praises during Sunday morning worship.
Confirmation
Confirmation class is a three-year study for sixth through eighth-graders. The goal of this study is to prepare our students doctrinally, to know what the Bible teaches; spiritually, to believe its truths; and personally, to be ready to serve God and His kingdom. Participants study God’s Word using Luther’s Small Catechism as their guide. The oldest catechism still in use, Luther’s Small Catechism taught six essential areas of faith (“chief parts”).
Students study and memorize key Bible verses and explanations for major components of the faith:
• Ten Commandments
• the Apostles’ Creed
• the Lord’s Prayer
• the Sacrament of Holy Baptism
• the Office of the Keys and Confession
• the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
Following this course work, students are publicly confirmed in the faith. They are then considered full, adult members of the church and are ready for adult Bible study and the Lord’s Supper.
Bible Information Class
Have you ever wondered what the Bible teaches about:
How the world was formed?
Why there is bad stuff in the world?
Who Jesus is and what did He do for you?
If you have, please join us for a Bible Information Class. This series of classes is taught straight from the Bible. Whether you are a beginning Bible reader or have some background, what you learn here will change and strengthen your life as you get to know God. There is no obligation to join the church, but you are welcome to sit in, learn, and ask questions. Upon completion of the course, you may become a member by a profession of your faith, or you may choose not to join, and further study the Word as the Lord leads you.
All the materials are provided, and there are about fifteen lessons, spanning 10 – 12 sessions, covering such important subjects as:
Is there a God?
What does the Bible teach us about God?
How did mankind fall into sin?
Why did Jesus need to be both true God and true man?
What does Jesus’ resurrection prove?
What is the law and gospel?
What does baptism mean for me?
What are the blessings of the Lord’s Supper?
How do I study the Bible?
What answers may God give to our prayers?
